Shopping for ladies fashions while saving money helps the Kelowna/Westside Food Banks

Kelowna Closet Cleanout Nov 2, 2014Media Release: Shopping for ladies fashions while saving money helps the Kelowna/Westside Food Banks

NEWS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: KELOWNA, BC – Oct 16, 2014. -It’s that time of year again.  Time to pack up the sundresses and sandals, and dig out the sweaters and boots. It’s also the time when ladies discover that their clothing no longer fits or they just don’t want to wear it anymore.  The Kelowna Closet Cleanout helps ladies update their winter wardrobe, purge their old items, and support charity!

After the success of the spring Kelowna Closet Cleanout in April, organizers are set to host another Ladies Fashion Flea Market. Women can rent tables to sell their gently used clothing, accessories and shoes by emailing .  This event will have some fun new additions, CrAsian Food Truck, live music, and a HUGE bin, supplied by Bin There Dump That. Women attending the event are encouraged to fill the bin by bringing any unwanted clothing and shoes to be donated to Soles4Souls for distribution throughout the Okanagan, with the remaining going overseas.

“The response to our first event was amazing!” said Rosanne Ting-Mak Brown, owner of RedScope Media, the producer of the event.  “The women involved enjoyed having fun, buying & selling used clothing, and helping a worthy charity.  Our chosen charity for this event is the Kelowna & Westside Food Banks.”

The Fall Kelowna Closet Cleanout, Kelowna’s Largest Fashion Flea Market will have over 60 tables of gently used ladies fashion.  It will be held November 2nd, 2014 at the Parkinson Rec Center from 10am-3pm.  The $5 entry fee will give ladies a chance to win one of the many door prizes, including a free 20 yard bin rental from Bin There Dump That!  And the first 200 ladies will receive reusable gift bags.   But the best part of the event will be the camaraderie and fun had when shopping for great deals with other ladies…and come prepared, this is a cash only event!

Okanagan Spirits Winetender’s Mixoff Announces People’s and Judges Awards Thursday Night!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Kelowna, B.C. ~ The energy was buzzing as ten bartenders from ten restaurants prepared to compete in last night’s Okanagan Spirits Winetender’s Mixoff. Showcasing and presenting their creations to not only the judges but also the 250 people who attended the event, each of their cocktails was required to include an Okanagan Spirit and a local wine. Many of them also included unique ingredients of fresh fruit purees, infused liquors, and a few veggies!

Guests were also treated to delicious appetizers such as Karfty Kitchen’s creation, GATSBY’S BEETS Local chevre, pickled onion, over roasted beet ,finished with lemon pearls and Globe Cafe’s Roasted apple Baklava with lemon curd and Vanilla lime syrup.

Everyone arrived at the wonderful historic Laurel Building, to the smells of delicious food and the sound of live jazz music. After sampling the cocktails, the food, and watching the presentation they had the opportunity to choose their favorite cocktail. While the competition was tight, by the end of the evening, winners were chosen in the People’s Choice and Judge’s Choice category.

Three judges sampled throughout the evening, taking into consideration the name, presentation, taste, originality, and food pairing. This year was extremely close and resulted in the Judges Choice being awarded to both Johanne Audette from Globe Cafe with her ’70 day Tease’ and Micah Jensen from Raudz Regional Table with his ‘Relic’  . Votes then were tallied for the People’s Choice, where Luke Atherton from Ricardo’s was announced the winner for his ‘A Bridge to Fall’. “The planning and preparation of the cocktails by the professional bartenders was incredible, and to balance that perfectly with some amazing gourmet food is truly an art.” said one of the judges, Discover Wines Tracy Gray.

Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery, with a portfolio over 25 different types of alcohol made from 100% BC fruit and grain, has over 50 World Spirits awards to their name, and is now Canada’s only Master Class Distillery, North America’s only World Class Distillery, and this year’s World Spirits Awards Distillery of the Year“We were excited to see the bartender’s creativity and originality in coming up with these fantastic cocktails! And proud to present the awards to the deserving winners!” says Okanagan Spirits Sales & Marketing Manager Rodney Goodchild.

JCI Okanagan is a member based non-profit organization where “young professionals and entrepreneurs are developing as individuals to make an impact.” “The restaurants really stepped up to the challenge, creating such unique drinks & appetizers and really performing for the crowds.” says Corinne Shoranick, JCI Okanagan President. “We have had very positive feedback about the event, we foresee next years event being a sold out success!

Local restaurants are jumping to showcase the creativity and influences that they use in their dishes and want to showcase how the trend is to now apply these same techniques to the drinks that they serve.  Harry Dosanj from Bacaro will be competing again, defending his People’s Choice win from 2013. He will be joined by nine other bartenders from various restaurants throughout the valley.  This is also an incredible opportunity for the public to try cocktails and food from ten of the best restaurants in the region, and to be entertained with live music.  More details and tickets are available at www.winetender.ca, with early bird pricing until Sept 30th.

Four Workshops for Women that get Results!

Four Workshops for Women that get Results!

Media Release: Small Business Makeover: Four Workshops for Women that get Results!

For Immediate Release: -August 6th, 2014, Kelowna, BC- Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey reports there were 950,000 self-employed women in Canada in 2011, accounting for about one third of all self-employed persons. Between 2001 and 2011, the number of self-employed women grew by 23 percent compared with14-percent growth in male self-employment.

Women are responsible for 83% of all consumer purchasing and make 95% of all household financial decisions. Source: Statistics RBC

Each year more women are taking control of what their employment looks like as they value flexibility. They also make the final decision on most purchases in the household. So why do most service businesses still gear their businesses to a male buyer?

The ‘Small Business Makeover’ is a day of four workshops designed by women for women. August 19th is the day of hands on training to get results. We know that so many conferences or webinars offered only share what to do but don’t show you exactly how to do it. The four female entrepreneurs facilitating the workshops will walk the group through the steps until you have a finished outcome. They will be covering topics such as: Office Organizing, Image, Finances, and Social Media. It will be a full day of learning, doing and meeting passionate women who want to get results in business and life.

The event will be held at the Manteo on August 19th from 9am to 5.30pm. Lunch is included, along with wine at the reception afterwards. Tickets are $199 plus GST if you get your tickets now. The value of attending the event is $850 so $199 is a steal. Get your tickets today and share the event if you know a woman who runs their own business or is looking to start their own business.

Media Release: Finding New Homes for Previously Loved Fashion, Benefits Kelowna’s Women.

NEWS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: KELOWNA, BC – April 8, 2014. -Spring is a time of fresh and new, and what better way than to clean out your closet! Ask any woman today, if they have clothing, shoes or accessories that they want to get rid of, and you will receive a resounding yes! The average woman wears only about 20% of the clothing in their closet. She also has about 22 items in her wardrobe that she will never wear but absolutely refuses to throw out, and at least 5 of these items still have the tags on them. And, while we try and purge by donating to deserving charities, we often hold onto many items because we spent a lot of money on them, it’s a favourite or we hope to fit into it again one day! Having a monetary incentive to get rid of your clothing, helps make that purging just a little easier, and having a deadline doesn’t hurt either!

Women also love buying new clothing, or at least “new to you” clothing. Second hand, consignment stores, and thrift stores have done a thriving business over the last few years. Swap groups have popped up on social media channels and used clothing classifieds continue to grow. There is also the environmental benefit of re-using clothing rather than just throwing it away. This is what inspired Rosanne Ting-Mak Brown, owner of RedScope Media to create the Kelowna Closet Cleanout – Ladies Fashion Flea Market on April 26th, 2014.

“There are several flea markets geared to selling kids clothing and equipment, but there is nothing similar for ladies fashion.” said Rosanne Ting-Mak Brown, who owns her own marketing company RedScope Media that specializes in social media and event coordination. “I know so many women who are looking for options and motivation to clean out their closets, and I thought this may be a great event to fill that need. Choosing the Kelowna Women’s Shelter to benefit from the event was a natural fit, and all donated shoes & clothing after the sale will be going to Soles4Souls.”

Ting-Mak’s business is Social Media Management for a social life. She says, “Life is about being social…social media, social marketing, social events. So, using mostly social media, Rosanne found a location and started spreading the word. The response was tremendous, and she has done much of the event organizing from taking payments, to coordinating how to build fitting rooms right from her home office. Within a month over 80% of the tables have been rented out of the anticipated space for 70.

The Kelowna Closet Cleanout, Kelowna’s First Ladies Fashion Flea Market will be held April 26th, 2014, 10am-3pm at the Sunplex at 1155 Ellis Street. There will be over 70 tables with gentle used ladies clothing, shoes, and accessories. All will be available for sale directly from the flea market vendor. Grab something new to you, save money, and help support Kelowna Women’s Shelter and Soles4Souls. Georgie Girl, a local vintage consignment store, will be there with her vintage tickle trunk and photo booth set up, where you can get a “Snap in the Hat”. The $5 entry will give you a chance to win some amazing door prizes and the first 200 shoppers through the door will receive a reusable gift bag filled with treats from local sponsors.
